Emporia State names new provost

Emporia State University has a new provost.

The university has named David P. Cordle as its new provost and vice president for academic affairs, it announced Wednesday. Cordle comes from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he serves now as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Cordle, a professor of music, has previously served as chairman of the music department at Virginia Commonwealth University and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

He will take over as provost on July 1.

He replaces Tes Mehring, who was provost from 2008 until 2012, when she moved into a phased retirement. Gwen Alexander has served as interim provost since August 2012.
