Hilltop Hustle 5K making final run through main KU campus this year

The annual fundraiser run for Hilltop Child Development Center at Kansas University is later this month, and it will be the last chance for runners to take the traditional route through the campus.

The 14th annual Hilltop Hustle is set for April 27, and it will be the final time it will take its usual route past Allen Fieldhouse and along Jayhawk Boulevard and other campus roads. New KU safety policies will force a new route starting next year, race director David Byrd-Stadler said, likely on KU’s West Campus.

The race raises money for the campus child care center’s Families in Need Fund, which helps pay tuition for the children of KU students who need financial assistance.

Included are a certified 5K run/walk, plus a 1-kilometer run/walk for children (every kid gets a medal).

Runners who register by Sunday can enter the 5K for $25 and reserve a race T-shirt. Anyone who registers after Sunday must pay $30, and T-shirts won’t be guaranteed. Entrance in the children’s run is $5.

Registration is available online at people.ku.edu/~msc/hilltop. The race is set for 8 a.m. April 27, with race materials pickup beginning at 7:15 a.m.

Hilltop celebrated its 40th anniversary last fall.
