Baldwin

• Despite a second-half rally, the Baldwin High football team dropped its second-straight game on Friday, 14-12, against Spring Hill. Spring Hill built and maintained an early lead throughout the game, but Cornell Brown began a rally with an interception return down to the 34-yard-line late in the third quarter. Quarterback Tyler Cawley found Brown for a 39-yard touchdown pass five plays later on offense. Brown and Cawley hooked up once more on a drive highlighted by a 47-yard Brown run and punctuated by a 16-yard touchdown pass. The potential game-tying 2-point conversion, however, fell incomplete in the end zone.

The Bulldogs (2-2) travel to De Soto to continue Frontier League play at 7 p.m. Friday.

• The Baldwin volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Louisburg (24-26, 27-29, 22-25) on Tuesday despite a spate of rallies throughout the league match. At the annual Dig Pink showdown, middle hitters Alexia Stein and Morgan Lober each had hitting efficiencies above .500. Stein recorded nine kills with one error and Lober added five kills with no errors.

De Soto

• Angel Vasquez and Luis Murillo medaled for the Wildcats as the boys cross-country team placed 11th in the Gold division at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence on Saturday. The girls placed ninth in the Crimson division, led my Meredith Wolfe’s 22nd-place finish.

• The De Soto girls tennis team placed third at the Wildcat Invitational last week, led by Paige Williams’ second-place finish. Williams has also won the Clay Center Invitational and Baldwin Invitational this season. Doubles team Olivia Cline and Stephanie Hinchley placed seventh out of 16 teams at the Wildcat Invitational.

• Corbin Clark completed 8-of-18 passes for 129 yards, two touchdowns and an interception as the Wildcats fell to 1-3 on Friday in a 28-14 loss to Louisburg. Zach Griffiths led the Wildcats with six receptions for 99-yards, including a 45-yard touchdown catch. The Wildcats return to play at 7 p.m. on Friday when they host Baldwin.

Eudora

• Andrew Ballock completed a perfect 8-of-8 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns and added 105 rushing yards and two scores in a 35-7 victory against Paola on Friday. The Cardinals (4-0) remained undefeated as Garret Elston led the team with 172 rushing yards on 17 carries — the Cardinals would finish with 321 total rushing yards. Eudora travels to Spring Hill at 7 p.m. on Friday.

• Madison Maring was named to the Tonganoxie Invitational’s All-Tournament Team, and Anne Beck was named Defensive Player of the Tournament as the Cardinals rallied for third place on Saturday at the event. Eudora claimed victories against SM Northwest, Piper and Tonganoxie before defeating Ottawa in the third-place match.

Shawnee

• Junior Molly Oshinski had 14 kills and 14 digs, and junior Hannah Billings recorded 19 of her team’s 20 assists to lead Mill Valley past Basehor-Linwood on Tuesday for its sixth-straight victory. The Jaguars — 12-3, (4-0 in the Kaw Valley League) under first-year head coach Whitney Revelle– downed the Bobcats in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-16) in a Kaw Valley League match to set up a showdown between the league’s top two teams next week. Mill Valley will visit Lansing — who, along with the Jaguars, is unbeaten in league play — on Oct. 2.

• Both Mill Valley cross-country teams placed in the top 10 in their respective races at the Rim Rock Fall Classic in Lawrence on Saturday, each placing second among all 5A schools in their races.

Ellie Wilson (15:56) and Amber Akin (16:02) each medaled for the girls, placing seventh and 11th, respectively. The girls team placed ninth overall with 327 points. Calahan Eckhardt (17:19) and C.J. Meeks (17:26) led the boys to a seventh-place finish, placing 45th and 54th, respectively. The Jaguars return to competition Saturday at Topeka-Seaman.

• Mill Valley quarterback Skyler Windmiller completed 9-of-10 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Jaguars to a 59-0 victory at Tonganoxie last Friday to cruise to 3-1 (3-0 in the KVL). The Jaguars return to league play when they head to Bonner Springs for a 7 p.m. Friday kickoff.

Tonganoxie

• In the Chieftain’s third-straight loss this season, Cole Holloway began last week’s game against visiting Mill Valley with runs of 12 and 11 yards. The Kaw Valley League leaders, however, clamped down from there, keeping Tonganoxie (1-3, 1-2 in KVL) off the board in a 59-0 loss. Freshman running back Austin Ettinger led the Chieftains with six carries for 56 yards — both career-highs. He gave Tonganoxie its biggest play of the night on a 50-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Tonganoxie will play host to Bishop Ward at 7 p.m. Friday for homecoming.

• After placing seventh at Saturday’s home invitational tournament, the Tonganoxie volleyball team kept things close but fell in four sets on Tuesday at Lansing (10-25, 23-25, 25-23, 24-26). Senior Jenny Whitledge recorded 18 kills and 22 dig for the 9-10 Chieftains, and senior Madee Walker added eight kills.

• The Chieftains boys soccer team saw its winning streak come to an end on Tuesday in a 2-2 tie at Perry-Lecompton. The Chieftains (9-1-1, 5-0 in KVL) forced the tie with one minute left in regulation, both of its goals coming from Matt Saathoff, who has now scored 18 times this season.
