25 years ago: Selective admissions under consideration for KU

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 23, 1987:

Last week, the executive director of the Kansas Board of Regents had introduced a proposal for selective admissions at Kansas University, Kansas State University, and Wichita State University. This week, officials at KU were planning to review this fall’s enrollment to see what effect such admissions standards would have had on this year’s student headcount. During the time of this audit, which was expected to take at least 45 days, KU faculty, staff, and students would also be able to make suggestions on the proposal. Faculty were scheduled to discuss the open admissions issue during a University Council meeting this week.
