Voters can register, meet candidates

Voters will have an opportunity to meet informally with area candidates during a Candidate Fair.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Lawrence Visitors Center, 402 N. Second St.

The event is sponsored by the Voter Education Coalition, a nonpartisan organization founded to promote civil dialogue and voter participation.

Both opposed and unopposed candidates for county offices, Kansas House and Senate seats, the Kansas State Board of Education and the 2nd Congressional District race have been invited to participate in the event, and most have indicated they will attend, according to VEC co-chair Jane Bateman.

There will be no formal presentations at the fair, but candidates will be on hand to meet with the public and distribute campaign materials.

The League of Women Voters of Lawrence and Douglas County will conduct voter registration at the fair and provide information about county commission and legislative districts.
