A Kansas University scientist will lead a public tour Saturday of a research garden filled with medicinal plants just north of Lawrence.

Kelly Kindscher, a senior scientist at the Kansas Biological Survey and an environmental studies professor at KU, will lead a tour of the KU Native Medicinal Plant Research Garden at 10 a.m. Saturday. The garden is on East 1600 Road north of U.S. Highway 40, near Lawrence Municipal Airport.

KU and Haskell Indian Nations University students conduct research at the garden, and the KU Student Farm community garden is at the same site.

The garden is part of the KU Native Medicinal Plant Research Program, which contributed to the discovery of 14 new chemical compounds in a wild tomatillo plant that could lead to new cancer treatments, KU announced this spring.
