From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 20, 1987:

The crowd at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium had greeted a visitor with a standing ovation this past weekend when Chancellor Gene A. Budig had recognized former Gov. Alf Landon and his family as this year’s Parents Day family. Landon, a 1908 KU law graduate who had celebrated his 100th birthday Sept. 9, tipped his blue Jayhawk cap to the crowd as fans roared in appreciation. Landon, who had not traveled outside Topeka since attending a KU spring football game four years ago, sang along as the band played the national anthem and was driven slowly around the track before returning to Topeka.
