From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 30, 1972:

• The first major early winter storm was moving into western Kansas today. Although no snow was forecast for Lawrence, the storm was bringing considerably colder temperatures to the area along with blustery north winds and freezing rain.
• A small article today reminded travelers that the shortest route to Kansas City International Airport at this time was via Leavenworth. Drivers from Lawrence were required to take I-70 to U.S. 73, then drive north to K-92, passing over the toll bridge and then driving the final 10 miles to the airport.
• On the agenda for the upcoming City Commission meeting were such items as special assessments for sidewalks in the Indian Hills neighborhood, a resolution for paving and installation of sidewalks along 28th Street Terrace and Four Wheel Drive, and a request from the Salvation Army for a permit to “place Christmas booths on Massachusetts Street during the Christmas season.”
