Lawrence man, 27, pleads to apartment burglary, threat

A 27-year-old Lawrence man pleaded no contest Tuesday to aggravated burglary and criminal threat charges stemming from a July 31 incident in which a man forced his way into an apartment in the 2100 block of West 26th Street.

Tomas Garcia Jr. pleaded to the charges as part of an agreement with prosecutors. Garcia originally was charged with two counts of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, two counts of aggravated assault and criminal damage.

The two victims in the case alleged that Garcia, who was intoxicated at time of the incident, also threatened to use a firearm during the incident.

Garcia will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Jan. 4. Depending on his criminal history, Garcia could receive up to 11 years in prison on the charges.
