Lawrence ArtWalk to feature works from over 20 artists

From photography to ceramics and everything in between, the 18th annual Lawrence ArtWalk will feature more than 20 area artists displaying their work during next weekend’s two-day affair.

The self-guided tour includes displays at galleries, studios and other spaces, and includes many acclaimed area artists.

The ArtWalk takes place Saturday and Sunday. Open houses last from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., will host a special preview Friday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a a glass-blowing demonstration and poster-signing from featured artist Ben Kappen. Various venues will host artist receptions concurrently from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

Kappen, a glass artist who attended Kansas University, was awarded a cash prize for being named the ArtWalk’s featured artist. The Missouri-born artist owns the Illuminated Glass Studio. Earlier this year, Kappen started a glass-blowing school, teaching students the finer points of torch-work and furnace-work, assisting them in making jewelry, sculptures and more.
