From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 20, 1987:

• The case of Michael Fargo, the man facing eviction from Clinton Place Apartments, was once again under consideration by the district court. Fargo’s attorney had asked that the July 7 decision of District Court Judge James Paddock be set aside in light of an interpretation of Fargo’s lease by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The management of Clinton Place had been seeking to evict Fargo, who had a seizure disorder, because the freelance computer work he did in his apartment was in violation of the lease which restricted the building to residential use only. Robert Fairchild, attorney for the apartment complex, said that in spite of the HUD interpretation, “under Kansas law, the terms of the lease meant what it said.”
• Home heating bills were expected to reflect a slight decline in price by late November. The president of Kansas Public Service, supplier of natural gas to Lawrence, had announced this morning that the price of natural gas had dropped, resulting in about $1.02 a month savings for the average residential customer.
