40 years ago: Longtime KU doctor to retire from health administration

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 19, 1972:

Dr. Raymond A. Schwegler, director of the Kansas University student health center since 1965, had reached the mandatory retirement age for administrators and was to leave his post on June 30. However, he was to continue to serve as a physician in the health service and as a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at KU Medical School. William Balfour, vice chancellor for student affairs, said today that Dr. Schwegler’s directorship had been “outstanding” and that he had “achieved unusual success in adapting and relating its services to students and their needs.” Balfour added that Dr. Schwegler had been instrumental in the design of the new student health facility being built near Robinson Gymnasium.
