For a third consecutive year, members of the Lawrence community donned red high heels for a calendar shoot to benefit The Willow Domestic Violence Center.

“We had some pre-eminent people around the area who have posed in red heels,” said Aimee Eickmann, Willow’s director of community engagement. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Among folks who posed for the 2013 calendar are Kansas University athletics director Sheahon Zenger and City Manager David Corliss.

Red Shoe Calendars sell for $20 and help fund Willow’s shelter, which housed 102 women and 113 children last year.

“This is the major fundraiser for The Willow,” Eickmann, said.

Eickmann said she hopes the calendar will raise awareness about domestic violence, a problem that affects one in three women.

“A lot of people don’t think it’s a problem in the Lawrence area, but it truly is. We serve about 1,600 people in this community every year.”

The decision to dress all of the models in red shoes was inspired by the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes campaign.

Eickmann said every spring across the country people put on red shoes and participate in a walk to raise awareness about domestic violence. It just seemed natural to use the same red shoes to raise money and awareness for The Willow.
