A distinguished professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be the third candidate for the Kansas University School of Engineering dean position to visit campus this fall, KU announced Tuesday.

The university announced Craig H. Benson, who holds several leadership positions at Wisconsin as well as a distinguished professorship, as the third engineering dean candidate. He will visit the campus this week and take part in a public forum from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the KU Visitor’s Center auditorium.

Brown is the chairman of geological engineering as well as civil and environmental engineering at Wisconsin, and he is also director of sustainability research and education.

He has a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin, and he earned his bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

Benson’s visit follows those from the first two announced candidates earlier this month: Michael Branicky, a professor and chairman of the electrical engineering and computer science department at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland; and Amr Elnashai, a professor and head of the civil and environmental engineering department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

A fourth candidate for the job is scheduled to appear at a forum Dec. 5. KU will release that candidate’s name about two days before his or her arrival on campus, according to a university release.
