40 years ago: Progress being made on Holcom sports complex

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 17, 1972:

  • An aerial shot showed that grading and fencing had been completed on the site of the planned Louie Holcom Sports Complex in the southwest part of town. The photograph’s caption noted that the complex should “alleviate the cramped baseball diamond situation in Lawrence next summer.”
  • Movies showing in Lawrence theaters this week included “King Lear,” “What’s Up, Doc?,” “Fantasia,” and “Funny Girl.” An advertisement announced several movies “Coming This Winter to Commonwealth Theatres” including “Snowball Express,” “The Getaway,” “1776,” “Deliverance,” “Jeremiah Johnson,” Young Winston,” “Pete ‘n’ Tillie,” “The Valachi Papers,” “Steelyard Blues,” “Up the Sandbox,” “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean,” “and many more…”
