25 years ago: Domestic disturbance escalates into pyrotechnics

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 22, 1987:

A Lawrence couple’s domestic dispute had turned into fireworks — quite literally — on a recent night. The 20-year-old woman told police that she had been banging on the ceiling of their home in the 1300 block of Connecticut because her fiancé had been in an upstairs apartment with another woman for two hours. Upon inquiring upstairs, officers were told that the man was asleep in another room. The downstairs woman then began beating on the upstairs apartment door with a table leg. After calming her down, the police left, only to be called to the house two more times that night. On the last trip, at 3:37 a.m., police reported that the woman had discharged fireworks in her living room. Police arrested the woman and informed the fire department about the several boxes of stored fireworks as it was a possible violation of fire codes.
