Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. KU soccer camps: Kansas University will hold several youth soccer camps this summer. A Weekicks Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will run 9-11:30 a.m. June 11-15. A Day Camp for boys and girls grades 5-8 will run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 11-15. Girls Residential and Team Camps run July 13-16 and July 17-20 for girls in grades 4-12. Youth football camp: The Lawrence/Free State youth football camp will be Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27 at Lawrence High School. The camp is for children in third through eighth grades. Free State volleyball camp: Free State will hold a volleyball camp June 25-29. For eighth-graders and below, camp runs 8 a.m.-noon; for ninth-graders and up, 1-5 p.m. daily. For information contact Nancy Hopkins at 766-7677 or nhopkins@usd497.org.

Soccer tryouts: K.C. Core West Soccer Club will hold tryouts this spring for boys and girls teams (U7 to U14/15), fall 2012 high school girls and spring 2013 high school boys. Lyme Disease 5K: The second-annual Hope for Healing Lyme Disease 5K run and walk will be at 6 p.m., June 16, at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, south of the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Kansas Highway 10. Blastball: Blastball, an entry-level sport that teaches baseball and softball fundamentals, will be offered by the Lawrence Parks & Recreation Department this summer for boys and girls ages 4-5. A parent is required to participate with his/her child during instruction time. Blastball will take place indoors at East Lawrence Recreation Center. LHS scholarship golf tourney: The 13th Annual Lawrence Lions Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Tournament is at 8 a.m., June 16 at Alvamar Golf Course. Entry fee is $75 per golfer and includes golf, cart, prizes, and lunch. The tournament is NOT limited to LHS Alumni. Southwest volleyball, basketball camps: Southwest Middle School volleyball and basketball camps will be held May 29- June 1. Jayhawk baseball camps: The Little League Day Camp for ages 5-12 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on June 11-14 at Hoglund Ballpark. The Super Skills Camp for ages 9-12 will be June 28 (1-5 p.m.) and June 29-July 1 (9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark. Lunch will be provided for three days. Lawrence wrestlers: Two West Middle School wrestlers placed at the State Freestyle/Greco Roman tournament on May 6 in Hutchison. At 77 pounds, Tate Steele placed second in Greco and first in Freestyle. At 128 pounds, Tucker Wilson placed second in Greco and fourth in Freestyle.

Baldwin hoops camp: Baldwin’s elementary basketball camp, for boys entering grades 3-6, will be the week of June 4 at Baldwin High School, and the middle school camp, for grades 7-8, will be the week of June 25 at BHS. All girls fast pitch softball coaches are invited to attend this free clinic.

Jayhawk Model Masters: The Jayhawk Model Masters are hosting an Electric FlyIn for all scales of electric model aircraft, including scale, sport and jet aircraft. Junior golf at LCC: Lawrence Country Club invites all area junior golfers to participate in upcoming programs at LCC. Weekly clinics will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursdays (ages 6-13). Cost is $10/session. Two junior camps at LCC (ages 7-15). Camps are June 11th-15th & July 23rd-27th, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. The cost is $75/week. SNAG golf for tots (ages 4-7). Two sessions offered on May 6 and May 20 from 2-3 p.m. Cost is $5/session. Private lessons and playing lessons are available from LCC teaching professionals. Blackburn hole-in-one: Lonnie Blackburn used a gap wedge to fire a hole-in-one on the 108-yard No. 3 hole Tuesday at Eagle Bend. Don Boucher witnessed the shot.
