Lecompton post office to remain open but have hours cut under new plan; more than 300 other Kansas post offices to have reduced hours

A new plan by the U.S. Postal Service proposes to keep the Lecompton Post office open but significantly reduce the hours that it is staffed.

The new post office plan announced Wednesday would cut the number of hours the post office is staffed by an employee from eight hours a day currently to four hours in the future.

Access to post office boxes in the building will remain unchanged.

The Postal Service plan also calls for reduced hours at rural post offices across the country. According to a list released by the Postal Service about 3 p.m. Wednesday, 362 rural post offices in Kansas are proposed to have their hours cut.

Lecompton is the only Douglas County post office proposed to have its hours cuts. In the broader area, Linwood and Williamsburg are slated to have their hours cut from eight hours to four, while the Pomona facility will have its hours cut from eight hours to six hours.
