Xavier transfer Lyons commits to ’Zona

Former Xavier University combo guard Mark Lyons committed to Arizona on Sunday following his campus visit to the Pac-12 school.

The 6-foot-1 senior-to-be, who picked the Wildcats over Kentucky and Kansas University, chose to be reunited with coach Sean Miller, who recruited him while Miller was at Xavier.

“It was a lot of things,” Lyons told zagsblog.com. “The program … I’ve known these guys (coaches) since I was a junior or sophomore in high school. I have a great relationship with them.”

Lyons, who also visited Kentucky and at one point said he planned to visit KU, averaged 15.5 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. He will be immediately eligible at Arizona after earning his undergraduate degree in the next two weeks.

“The guys they’ve got coming in, they welcomed me with open arms. Everything about this place is right for me,” Lyons told zagsblog.

Harris visits KU: Damontre Harris, a 6-9, 225-pound sophomore who has announced plans to transfer from South Carolina to either KU or Florida, visited KU over the weekend. Sources indicate he did not commit to KU on the trip.

Harris averaged 6.8 points off 55 percent shooting and 80.4 percent free throwing and a team-best 5.5 rebounds last season. He was named to the SEC’s all-defensive team after blocking 71 shots in 31 games. It is believed the Fayetteville, N.C., native who was ranked No. 64 in the Class of 2010 by Rivals.com, will not be making any additional visits, with KU and Florida remaining his finalists.

Barnstorming finale: KU seniors Jordan Juenemann, Conner Teahan and Tyshawn Taylor have scheduled a Barnstorming Tour game for Friday night at Roeland Park’s Bishop Miege High. Autographs will be at 6 p.m., with a game to be held at 7:30 p.m.

KU offers Lawrence: Jermaine Lawrence, a 6-9, 190-pound senior-to-be from Pope John XXIII High in Sparta, N.J., has been offered a scholarship by KU, NYChoops.net reports.

“We were offered by UNLV, Kansas, Temple, Florida and Pitt over the (April 28-29) weekend,” family spokesperson Alexes Hargrove told NYChoops.net. “(KU coach) Bill Self saw him personally.”

Self and other college coaches watched Lawrence compete at the recent Philly Jamfest.

Lawrence, who is ranked 64th in the Class of 2013, also lists UCLA, St. John’s, Maryland, UConn, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Louisville, West Virginia and others.

Junior likes KU: Wayne Selden, a 6-4 junior-to-be small forward from The Tilton (N.H.) School, tells zagsblog.com he’s being recruited by KU and North Carolina. The No. 13-rated player in the Class of 2014 says he has offers from UConn, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio State, UCLA, Florida, Missouri, Pitt, Providence and Boston College.

He tells zagsblog.com he will cut his list by the end of the summer to “five or six.”
