Syfy sets sail on ‘Treasure Island’ adaptation

Syfy presents a four-hour adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” (7 p.m.). An impressive cast includes Eddie Izzard (as Long John Silver), Elijah Wood and Donald Sutherland. Glimpses of Wood, innumerable special effects and the marathon running time may appeal to fans of the “Lord of the Rings” franchise. For the rest of us, this talky, sweaty, seagoing adventure takes forever to set sail.

• The 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (8 p.m., HBO) features lots of performances and tributes to the inductees, including the Beastie Boys, Donovan, Guns N’ Roses, Freddie King, Laura Nyro, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Small Faces/Faces. This year’s ceremony took place in Cleveland, home to the Hall of Fame.

In addition to the well-known artists mentioned above, the Hall of Fame enshrined the backup bands for some of the biggest names in rock history, including the Blue Caps (Gene Vincent), the Comets (Bill Haley), the Crickets (Buddy Holly), the Famous Flames (James Brown), the Midnighters (Hank Ballard) and the Miracles, famous for performing behind Smokey Robinson, who was on hand to induct his group.
