40 years ago: Family seeks identification of cat after son is bitten

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 27, 1972:

The parents of a Lawrence boy had sent a letter to the Journal-World editor this week reading in part: “Last Wednesday afternoon my eight-year-old son was bitten by a cat. He described the cat as medium size, orange with brown and white stripes, and very fluffy. The incident took place in the 1000 block of Lawrence Avenue. We are trying to locate this cat to verify that it is a healthy animal.” Providing their phone number, the parents asked for help from the community in locating the cat. A few days later, an article noted that the cat had not yet been located and that young Christopher Wilhelm had embarked on a series of 14 painful rabies shots. “We are looking for any help we can get because the shots are quite an ordeal,” Mrs. Wilhelm said. “I’m naturally interested in ending the shots for Chris, but if the cat is not healthy, there is danger for others, as well.”
