Eudora’s CPA Picnic in full swing
Eudora’s biggest event of the year — the annual CPA picnic and all its festivities — runs through Saturday.
Named after the Central Protective Association of the early 1900s, the CPA is a social occasion for all ages that includes golf, games, a carnival and a parade. Organizer Nancy Trober said the event is a gathering of old friends — “a time for Eudora to get together and celebrate.”
“Small-town carnivals are kind of a thing of another time, but this is fun for the community,” she said.
Here’s a rundown of the schedule:
l The golf tournament starts at 8 a.m. today at Eagle Bend in Lawrence.
l The children’s parade kicks off at 7 p.m. today at Seventh and Main streets in Eudora. Contestants should line up by 6:15 p.m.
l After the children’s parade, there will be games for kids (water relays, egg toss, etc.) in CPA Park. Those interested should meet on Main Street in front of its gazebo.
l Atomic Possum, a local classic rock band, will play in the park beginning at 8 p.m. today.
l The grand parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Registration is at 6 p.m. in Laws Field at 14th and Elm streets.
l Eudora native and former “American Idol” contestant Jason “Wolf” Hamlin will perform in the Main Street gazebo starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
