Need a fireworks fix? Area regulations differ on where they’re legal
July Fourth Party in the Park schedule
• Hosted by the Lawrence Originals, the event runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 4 at Watson Park, between Sixth and Eighth streets.
• Will feature live bands, a bounce house for kids, a dunk tank, face painting and food booths from 18 local vendors.
• A professional fireworks show begins at 9:45 p.m., and can be seen from numerous places near Watson Park.
• The event is free and open to the public, but vendors will be charging for food and drinks.

With differing laws and ordinances across the area, and a special Sunday morning Douglas County Commission resolution, it can get a little confusing knowing where you’re free to fire off fireworks.
Here’s a quick guide to help you stay legal on the Fourth of July:
• Lawrence: Not permitted anywhere in city limits.
• Baldwin City: Legal from 8 a.m. to midnight July 4.
• Eudora: Legal from 7 a.m. to midnight July 4.
• Douglas County, including Lecompton: Illegal, except on private property. Also prohibited on any county-owned public right-of-way, including township and county roads. Shooting fireworks on the county’s two public parks, Wells Overlook and Lone Star Lake, is also prohibited.
• Clinton Lake: Illegal per a federal ban.
• Perry State Park: Legal on July 4 until 11 p.m., but only at the Lakeview boat ramp.
