• The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence is in need of Academic Enrichment Volunteers at all 11 of its after-school sites. Volunteers will work with elementary students on education activities during “Power Hour,” which is 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at each site. Volunteers are asked to commit to one day a week — Monday, Tuesday or Thursday — for an entire semester. Retired teachers, college students and high school students are encouraged to apply; training will be provided. Please contact Zachary Hall at 785-841-5672 or volunteer@bgclk.org.

• ECKAN is still in need of community members who can “Adopt a Family” for the holidays. You can adopt a family of any size and receive a wish list of items to help guide your contributions. ECKAN, along with other local social service agencies, is a part of the Holiday Bureau, which connects community members interested in giving to families in need during the holidays. Adopters are asked to provide one outfit of clothing and one personal item or toy per family member; additionally, you can offer gift cards/certificates to help the family purchase food for a holiday meal. Families can be adopted through ECKAN until Dec. 17. For more information, please contact Lillie Okwuone at 785-841-3357 or lokwuone@eckan.org.
