Jefferson County attorney resigns to take post with Kansas Corporation Commission

Jefferson County Attorney Robert Fox has resigned his position to become senior litigation counsel for the Kansas Corporation Commission, the state’s main regulatory agency, the county’s Republican Party chairman said Tuesday.

Travis Oliver, the GOP chairman, said Fox had submitted a letter of resignation to him effective Oct. 28, and the 21 members of the GOP precinct committee would meet 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Oskaloosa to select a replacement to fulfill the term.

The committee in January chose Fox, who was an assistant prosecutor, as a replacement for Jefferson County Attorney Caleb Stegall, a Republican, who after being elected in 2008 left the post to become Gov. Sam Brownback’s chief counsel.

Oliver said any attorneys interested in the prosecutor’s position should contact a GOP precinct committee member.
