Club news for September 24, 2011

Ten members of the Over the Rainbow Doll Club met with the Doll Study Club of Greater Kansas City. The combined meeting was Sept. 14 at the home of Debbie Tracy in Leawood. Members from both clubs introduced themselves by showing a doll that had special meaning for them and telling briefly how they got into doll collecting. Members presented several dolls from a wide variety of materials and from several eras. Over the Rainbow Doll Club members were reminded their club dolls are to be costumed for next month’s Halloween meeting.

University Bridge Club announces results of its Sept. 17 meeting with hosts Florence McNicoll, Alice Akin, Virginia Williams and Lois Liebert.

Blue winners: Al Smith, first; Alice Akin, second; Walt Hicks, third; Marc Kuepker, fourth; and Ray Ikenberry, fifth.

Pink winners: Carolyn Harden, first; Bebe Huxtable, second; Cora Kuepker, third; Carol Smith, fourth; and Ruth Gibbs, fifth.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Sept. 14 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Barbara McCorkle and Judy Bevan, first in A, B and C; Vince Nordberg and Steven Vossler, second in A; Chris Lane and Jean Khatib, third in A and second in B; Catherine Blumenfeld and Grant Sutton, fourth in A and third in B; Mona Bell and Carol Ball, fourth in B; and Karen Carlsen and Kit Carlsen, second in C.

East-West winners were John Oxley and Klee Zaricky, first in A; Mary Mertz and Lynne Wenski, second in A and first in B; Mark Osborn and Bobby Patton, third in A and second in B; Lois Clark and Shirley Reese, fourth in A and third in B; Jack Flickinger and Wanna Roszel, first in C; and Florine Creek and Barbara Haverty, second in C.

ACBL-Wide Instant Matchpoint game was Sept. 14 and was directed by Lester Dalton. North-South winners were Jeremy Martin and Craig Huneke, first; and Dianne Childs and Polly Schoning, tied in second with Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton.

East-West winners were Catherine Blumenfeld and Lynn Hui, first; Jan O’Connor and Lois Clark, second; and Mona Bell and Carol Ball, third.

The Thursday Morning Mentor game on Sept. 15 was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Jan O’Connor and Deronda Ashley, first; Virginia Seaver and Paul Jordan tied in second with Gary Joyce and Wayne Tindall; and Karen Carlsen and Kit Carlsen, fourth.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Sept. 16 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky, first in A; Carol Ball and Judy Hildreth tied in second in A with Chris Lane and Shirley Reese; Lane and Reese also placed first in B; and Karen Carlsen and Kit Carlsen, fourth in A, second in B, and first in C.

East-West winners were Steven Vossler and James Masilamani, first in A; Katha Hurt and Linda Schottler, second in A and first in B; Mark Osborn and Grant Sutton, third in A and second in B; Mary Mertz and Shari Krentzel, fourth in A; Lois Clark and Jan O’Connor, third in B; and Debbie Bettinger and Jean Khaib, first in C.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Sept. 19 was directed by Virginia Seaver. Winners were Ed Howard and Bobby Patton, first; Mark Osborn and James Masilamani, second; Virginia Seaver and Lois Clark, third; and Mary Fenlon and Julia Dalton, fourth.
