Kansas University golfer Paul Harris tied for seventh overall and finished five shots back of the leader after the first two rounds of the Kansas Invitational Monday at Alvamar Golf Club.

The Kansas men’s golf team is in fourth place, despite shooting poorly in the morning round. The Jayhawks finished the day 12-over par after a successful afternoon round and sit seven shots behind tournament leader Louisiana-Lafayette.

Harris, a junior who is playing his first year at Kansas, shot a 1-over 73 and a par 72, his first even-par round as a Jayhawk.

Other Jayhawks at the tournament included Alex Gutesha, who tied for ninth after shooting two rounds of 72, and Chris Gilbert, who tied for 22nd place after shooting a first-round 78 and a team-low second round of 71.

Kansas coach Kit Grove said he thinks his team can catch the leaders if it carries over some of the late-round success from Monday into today.

The Kansas Invitational will conclude today, with the final round beginning at 8 this morning.
