Heard on the Hill: Chancellor gets a fake Twitter account; KU libertarian group to promote free speech in front of Watson Library today; Student Senate is angry at conference shifting

• After my mentions of Twitter yesterday, we finally got our first (at least the first that I’m aware of) parody Twitter account of Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little (@bernadetteGL).

Initially, at least, it seems as if the parody quality isn’t quite up to the standards we’ve come to expect from Fake Joe Dooley and Evil Turner Gill.

But, don’t worry, Fake Bernadette Gray-Little, I have faith in you, yet.

• That group with the big white area for you to write anything you’d care to in front of Watson Library today?

That’ll be KU’s chapter of Young Americans for Liberty, who will be encouraging students to “write whatever they want” on the big wall, in an exercise of their free speech rights.

YAL, which the president of the organization somewhat whimsically pronounced “y’all” when we spoke on the phone, is a national organization that’s “a continuation of Students for Ron Paul,” that cantankerous, libertarian-leaning presidential candidate.

Here’s the webpage for the national organization.

• The latest organization to throw themselves into the conference realignment madness? KU’s Student Senate, which will consider a resolution this week “expressing displeasure with Texas A&M for their threat to the existence of the Big XII Conference and directing the Student Senate Development Director to deny Texas A&M’s student government participation in the Big XII Student Government Leadership Conference.”

Additionally, the resolution calls on KU leaders to publicly admonish Texas A&M for its “egregious behavior.”

Of course, the resolution is non-binding, and only expresses the opinion of the Student Senate.

But I admit a showdown at high noon between the Texas A&M delegation trying to show up to the leadership conference to be held at KU later this year, and KU student government officials trying to stand in their way would definitely be an amusing sight indeed.

• John Gaunt, KU’s dean of the School of Architecture, Urban Design and Planning has an exhibit on display at the KU Art and Design Gallery until Sept. 30.

• You can catch me in Kansas City, Kan., this morning for the big hullaballoo surrounding KU’s application for National Cancer Institute designation. I’ll still take your tips from afar, though. Just send them to ahyland@ljworld.com.
