From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 28, 1986:

A group calling itself the Committee to Elect a True Amphibian was leading a write-in campaign for their candidate for county commissioner, Agnes T. Frog. Ms. Frog was running against incumbent Democrat Nancy Hiebert. The campaign for Agnes was intended to highlight environmental issues related to the proposed 14.3-mile southern Lawrence bypass. John Simmons, staff member of the Kansas University Museum of Natural History and treasurer of the campaign, said that the area of most concern was the Baker Wetlands, where the bypass and any future development would cut into the state’s primary habitat for the northern crawfish frog, which was protected by the Kansas Nongame and Endangered Species Act of 1975. KU zoologist and crawfish-frog expert Joe Collins said that the firm that had written the environmental impact statement had ignored the wetlands. He added that Agnes should fit right in with other “slippery” politicians, and that he was hoping for a good rain on election day to bring all of her relatives out to the polls.
