40 years ago: KU chancellor appeals budget recommendations

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 30, 1971:

  • Kansas University Chancellor Laurence Chalmers today was appealing the recommendations put forth by the state budget director. Chalmers urged restoration of funds to provide money for faculty and classified personnel salaries as well as for operating expenses. Chalmers stressed the likelihood of continued loss of top faculty members if more funds were not provided.
  • A $2.2 million appropriation for Clinton Lake was included in the $46.5 million approved today by the U.S. House Appropriations Committee for supplemental public works funds.
