25 years ago: LHS Lions win 6-A football championship

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 30, 1986:

  • Construction was proceeding on schedule for the $4.2 million Student Loan Marketing Assn. building on the west side of the bluffs near Sixth and Iowa streets. The 52,148-square-foot building was to be the base for nearly 200 employees when Sallie Mae moved in, which was expected to be in the spring of 1987. The fast-growing firm was currently housed in three separate office facilities scattered around Lawrence.
  • The Lawrence High School football team and their fans were celebrating LHS’s come-from-behind win over Junction City High School. Red-clad fans rushed the field at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium as the Lions won the state Class 6A championship.
