Wichita senior shot on 2005 holiday recovering

? The family of a Wichita high school senior says he is a Thanksgiving miracle.

After graduating from Northeast Magnet High School next year, Jay Jay Warner plans to pursue a college degree in psychology.

That didn’t seem possible in 2005, when Jay Jay was shot in the neck outside his home on the evening before Thanksgiving in a drive-by shooting.

Verlene Warner says 18-year-old Jay Jay is her “miracle senior.” He has limited use of his of his right hand and some pain, but has moved on from the shooting.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Jay Jay will attend Butler Community College and then transfer to Kansas State University.

Police say the shooter was aiming at a vehicle in front of the Warners’ house and hit Jay Jay instead.
