Topeka considering regional transportation hub
Topeka ? The Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority is considering building a $25 million regional transportation hub.
Authority officials say the project would be a hub for several types of transportation, including Topeka Metro services, an airport shuttle and Greyhound buses. Plans also include a fitness center, a fueling station, a truck parking lot and a convenience store.
Topeka Metro’s CEO, Janlyn Nesbett-Tucker, says it’s not clear if the project is feasible, but it would address transportation needs for the region.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the Metro expects to hear if the project will receive a federal grant this December or January. If the grant is approved, construction could begin next summer, with the project completed in 2014.
The city would likely contribute about $5 million. A site hasn’t been chosen.
