From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 21, 1986:

• Charles Oldfather, a Kansas University professor emeritus and co-owner of the newly-opened Liberty Hall in Lawrence, recently had reached fame of a different kind in a TV commercial for the Missouri lottery. The ad featured Oldfather as a farmer who buys a lottery ticket but loses it in his cow pasture. In the next scene, one of his more clever cows rides by the farmer in a new white limousine with a license plate reading “MOO-LA.”
• On a recent night in Lawrence, there were many activities to choose from. The KU Chamber Music Series had brought the King’s Singers to town, with a concert in Plymouth Congregational Church attracting a crowd of over 1,000. A speech by Nicaraguan Vice President Sergio Ramirez at KU’s Woodruff Auditorium had drawn about 800 attendees. And for the lucky 15,000 basketball fans who had been able to score tickets, a fun night out was available at Allen Fieldhouse, where the Jayhawks had defeated the touring Soviet Union national team in an exhibition game.
