25 years ago: More development on tap east and west of town

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 9, 1986:

  • After a record year of construction for Lawrence, local developer Bob Billings said that there was plenty more in store for the western edge of town. Billings, who controlled or was working to control about 1,500 acres just west of the city limits, said that his plans included an 18-hole golf course as well as several single-family residential developments.
  • A development plan for the Noria industrial park in east Lawrence was to be presented to the Douglas County Commission in the days ahead. The planned 300-acre rail-served industrial park just east of Farmland Industries was being planned jointly by the county, the city, and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.
