Take Charge Challenge seeking help to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs

The Take Charge Challenge is looking for volunteers to help with a door-to-door distribution of compact fluorescent light bulbs to Lawrence neighborhoods in need from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Take Charge Challenge is a friendly, energy-efficiency competition between Lawrence and Manhattan, and the winning town will receive an energy-efficiency or renewable-energy community project worth up to $100,000. If you are available to help with this fun distribution of ‘green’ light bulbs, please meet at 10 a.m in the parking lot located on Rhode Island Street, between 11th and 12th streets (near South Park). Immediate needs

• Family Promise of Lawrence is in need of a small group of volunteers to help them with some cleaning and organizing of their Day Center on the evening of June 7. Only four to five volunteers are needed, and it would be a perfect opportunity for a family or a small group of friends. • Kansas Lyme Fighters Inc. is looking for volunteers to help with their 1-Mile Walk and 5K Run for Awareness from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 11. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks for the event, which will take place at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum Park, south of the intersection of Wakarusa Drive and Kansas Highway 10. • The 2011 Tour of Lawrence is in need of volunteers for its cycling events July 1-3. Volunteers will help set up and tear down the race routes, act as corner marshals, and so much more. All volunteers will be provided with T-shirts, meals, and lots of fun for what promises to be an exciting race! Numerous shifts are available, so you only need to give a few hours of your time to be a part of the race crew. • Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at Iowa Street and Bob Billings Parkway, is seeking eight or nine volunteers to assist as lesson leaders at their Vacation Bible School from June 20-24. Adult and youth (ages 13 and older) volunteers are needed from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day, and there will be a training meeting for volunteers Wednesday.
