LHS softball camp: Lawrence High will hold a softball camp at its new field on campus from May 31 to June 3 for students entering grades 3-12. LHS wrestling camp: Lawrence High will host a summer wrestling camp June 13-15 at LHS. There will be two sessions (morning and afternoon) daily and is for grades 1-12. For more information, email randy@sunflowerkidswrestling.com.

Orchards junior league: A junior golf league for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 will start at 9 a.m. on June 8 at the Orchards. Play will continue until school starts. A reasonable skill level required to join. Entry fee is $10 and green fees are $8 for nine holes. Those that join will be allowed this same green fee throughout the season. Football camp: The Free State High and Lawrence High youth football camp (for grades 3-8) will run June 27-29 at FSHS. Lawrence swim team and lessons: Ad Astra Area Aquatics is a competitive year-round swim team that offers practices for ages 6-18 throughout the week. AAAA is always accepting new members. Swim academy: Registration is open for the Aquahawk Swim Academy swim-lesson program. The Aquahawk Swim Academy is designed to introduce new and beginner swimmers to the water, teach basic water safety and swimming skills to swim for fun or competitively. KU soccer camps: The Kansas University Soccer Weekicks Camp will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. June 6-10; the day camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6-10 for grades 4-12; the girls residential and girls team camp has two sessions. Session I is from July 15-18, all day (grades 4-12). Session II is from July 19-22, all day (grades 4-12). Henrickson camps: Applications are being accepted for the 2011 Bonnie Henrickson Basketball Camps. There are four camps: Elite (June 9-11) for girls only; individual (June 19-22) for girls in grades 5-12; and the Jayhawk Jamboree (June 23 or 25) for teams; and the Junior Jayhawk Camp (June 27-30) for girls and boys in grades 1-5. Seabury summer programs: Seabury Academy will host several athletics summer programs. Bulldog volleyball camp: Brenda Shawley and the Baldwin Junior High coaching staff will host its Bulldog Volleyball Camp for girls in grades 4-8 from June 6 to 9 at the Baldwin High gym The first session, for grades 4-6, is from 9-10:30 a.m., and the second session for grades 7-8 will be 10:30 a.m.-noon. Southwest Volleyball Camp: The Southwest Volleyball Camp will run from 9-11:30 a.m., May 31-June 3 at the Southwest Junior High gym. Called To Greatness League: The Called To Greatness 3-on-3 Summer Basketball League will be held Monday through Thursday each week between June 6 and June 30 at the Holcom Park Recreation Center. Each division meets twice a week for brief instruction followed by 3-on-3 games. Aquahawks clinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks will hold a new swimmer clinic at 5:30 p.m. on June 1 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. Anyone ages 5-18 is welcome to attend the clinic. LHS Alumni Golf Tournament: The 12th Annual Lawrence Lions Alumni Association Scholarship Golf Tournament will take place at 8 a.m. on June 18 at Alvamar Golf Course. Entry fee is $75 per golfer and includes golf, cart, prizes, and lunch. The tournament is not limited to LHS Alumni. Alvamar women’s golf: The Alvamar Womens Golf Team played in its first Team Event for the season at Loch Lloyd Country Club in Kansas City. The team took first place in the Gross Division (no handicap). Two Person Teams were: 1. Vicki Friend & Susan Devoe; 2. Sheila Conolly & June Adams; 3. Elaine Brady & Sheila Collier; 4. Linda Randall & Kristi Butler. The next meet will be June 6 at Lakewood Oaks.

AAU hoops club: The Lady Prospects AAU Basketball Club will host the Lady Prospects Summer Basketball Academy for all girls entering the fourth through eighth grades in the 2011 school year. LHS boys tennis workouts: Lawrence High is conducting boys tennis workouts for all LHS boys tennis players, grades nine through 12, for the 2012 season. The workouts will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. on June 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30 and July 7, 12 and 14 at the LHS tennis courts. Petz honored: Free State High graduate Andy Petz, a senior catcher for Washburn University, was named first-team Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A physics major, Petz has a 4.0 GPA and earned second-team All-MIAA honors after hitting .307 with 42 RBIs and helping the Ichabods to their first MIAA postseason tournament since 2006. Petz is the school’s first baseball player to earn first-team Academic All-American honors.

Self camp: There’s still time to register teams for the Bill Self/Lawrence Parks and Recreation Golf Classic to benefit the Parks and Recreation Department’s Wee Folks Scholarship Fund.

The golf classic is scheduled for a 1 p.m. shotgun start Friday, June 17, at Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Rd. The event is set up as a four-person scramble and will be flighted with awards for first-, second- and third-place finishers in each flight. Cost to participate is $100 per individual or $400 per four-player team. Individuals may request to be assigned to a team in need of players.

Cost includes: green fee, golf cart rental, lunch, gift bag, drinks, awards and dinner. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with free range balls provided prior to lunch. Lunch will be provided by Bigg’s BBQ, of Lawrence, and will be served at noon. Dinner and awards will be held after golfing. Dinner is being provided by Salty Iguana, of Lawrence.

Individuals may enroll online at www.lprd.org. Registration forms are also available at all Lawrence Parks and Recreation facilities.

Eagle bend leagues: To join a league, sign up at Eagle Bend’s Pro Shop.

Eagle Bend Men’s Golf League: Fee: $30 one-time fee, walking/riding fees, as well as a $10 entry fee each week. A weekly league with varying formats. Objective of the league is to provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere to improve your golf game. Open to all males 18 years old and up. Runs Tuesdays, April 12-Aug. 30, all day.

Eagle Bend Women’s Golf League: Fee: $15 annual fee. A once-a-week league for golfers of all skill levels. Weekly league with varying formats Open to all females, 18 years old and up. Runs Wednesdays, April 20-Aug. 30, at 5 p.m. League membership fee plus appropriate green fees will be charged.

Eagle bend men’s senior golf league: Fee: $25, plus: walking/riding fees, as well as $5 entry fee. Meets once a week for 22 weeks. Golfers of all abilities are welcome. Various weekly formats, weekly prizes and an end-of-year luncheon are planned. Any male 50 years old and up are eligible to join. League runs April 11-Sept. 19.

Eagle Bend Junior 9-Hole Golf League: Fee: $50 one-time fee. A league promoting fun competition for junior golfers. This is not an instructional league. Boys and girls age 12-17, who have not reached their 18th birthday by June 10, are eligible. League is open to the first 48 golfers. League runs Mondays, June 6-July 18, with tee times between 1-2 p.m.

Hole-in-one: Christopher Thate scored a hole-in-one on Saturday, May 21, at Eagle Bend. It took place on hole No. 3, from 105 yards out. Thate used a 9-iron. Witnesses were Ben Ross and Adam Redden.
