From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Mar. 17, 1986:

• “How low can they go?” The question was on the minds of some Lawrence residents as they watched local gasoline prices sink still lower than in recent weeks. At a time when other cities in the U.S. were paying more than $1 a gallon, local service stations were dropping their prices down below 70 cents a gallon. Lawrence and Dodge City had some of the lowest retail prices in Kansas, while in both Kansas and Oklahoma, gas was cheaper than on either the East or West coast by about 25 cents per gallon.
• Volunteers were being sought for the Sunflower Benefit Horse Show, scheduled for June 19 through 23. The show, whose proceeds were to benefit the O’Connell Youth Ranch, would have classes for Arabians, Morgans, saddlebreds, roadster ponies, half-Arabians, open Western pleasure, open English pleasure and open driving.
