From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Mar. 15, 1971:

• Kansas Atty. Gen. Vern Miller announced that he was bringing suit against General Motors Corp., American Motors Corp. and the Automobile Manufacturers Association. Miller alleged that the companies had conspired for the past 18 years to be “non-competitive in the research, development and manufacture of air pollution control equipment.” The suit was seeking to force the manufacturers to install air pollution control equipment on all vehicles manufactured and sold since 1953.
• After a spectacular weekend with temperatures in the mid-70s, the Lawrence area was in for a rude shock for the coming days. Forecasters were predicting a drop into the 20s overnight, with some northwest winds.
• As NBC had all the rights to NCAA basketball in 1971, Kansas City’s Channel 4 was scheduled to televise the upcoming NCAA Regional game between Kansas and Houston at Wichita. A Channel 4 spokesman said that a televised game was “certain if it’s a sellout.” The game had already reached sellout status in the 10,000-seat arena.
