Fort Riley to honor fallen soldiers in Victory Week ceremony

? Twenty-two soldiers killed in combat over the past year will be honored next week at a ceremony at Fort Riley.

The soldiers were members of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, which has more than 18,000 soldiers assigned to the northeast Kansas post.

The ceremony is set for June 29 during the celebration of Victory Week, honoring the division’s history that dates to its formation during World War I.

The division will honor the fallen soldiers by ringing a bell in Victory Park, reading their names and unveiling stones placed along the walk outside the division headquarters.

According to Fort Riley statistics, 185 soldiers, sailors and airmen assigned to the post have died in combat in Iraq or Afghanistan since 2003.
