A Linwood man sentenced to life in prison for child rape late last year, currently out of jail on a $400,000 appeal bond, has been placed under supervision and ordered to stay away from children and places frequented by children, as a condition of his bond.

A Leavenworth County District Court judge ordered the conditions on the bond of Christopher A. King after Linwood-area residents told Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson’s office that they’d seen King at sporting events and in other public areas, Thompson said.

King was sentenced to life in prison in December 2010 after he was found guilty in October of two counts of rape and one count each of aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties of a child.

King was found guilty of sexually molesting a girl, who was then 8 years old. According to court proceedings, the assaults occurred several times between Aug. 20, 2007, and Jan. 3, 2008. The girl is one of King’s relatives, Thompson said.

The conditions placed on King’s appeal bond require him to report to Leavenworth County Court Services by noon Friday to begin bond supervision and electronic monitoring. He is ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family; to have no contact with any children except for his son; to keep at least 1,000 feet away from any school, sports field or practice facility, swimming pool, park or other place frequented by children.

After Linwood-area residents contacted Thompson’s office in late May and early June, the office filed a motion to put the bond conditions in place, Thompson said.

“We are very happy the judge took the feelings of the community into consideration,” Thompson said.

King received a $400,000 appeal bond and was released from jail Dec. 10, two days after he was sentenced, Thompson said. An appeal bond allows a sentenced defendant to be released from jail until appeals are complete.

Thompson said King had already been ordered to stay away from the victim and her family, but he said the lack of further conditions on the bond may have been an oversight by the judge, perhaps because of the large bond amount that was set.
