Lawrence City Commission to declare ‘Brady Tanner Day’ in honor of Special Olympics athlete
Brady Tanner of Lawrence, a member of the Special Olympics Douglas County team, is one of three Kansas athletes who will compete for Team USA in the World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, later this month.
Tanner, who is a powerlifter, will leave for Greece this week.
Tuesday, the Lawrence City Commission is scheduled to read a proclamation declaring June 16 Brady Tanner Day during its meeting at 6:30 p.m.
A send-off party is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at South Park. Tanner is scheduled to depart Saturday for Greece.
The public is invited to attend the events, and is encouraged to wear red, white and blue, wave American flags or bring a poster to show support.
