White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. ? Anthony Kim shot an 8-under 62 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Greenbrier Classic.

Kim is at 10-under 130 on the Old White TPC course. Tour rookie Scott Stallings shot 66 to move into second place at 9 under. Former Kansas University golfer Gary Woodland (67) and Webb Simpson (69) are two shots back.

Simpson was the second round co-leader with Brendon de Jonge. De Jonge shot 72 to fall five strokes behind.

Browne up 2 at US Senior Open

Toledo, Ohio — Unflappable Olin Browne fought off the heat to shoot a 65 and forge a two-shot lead over Mark O’Meara through Saturday’s third round of the U.S. Senior Open.

Browne, never a winner in his three years of competition since turning 50, set the tournament record for lowest score through 54 holes. After a record-tying 64 followed by a 69, he’s at 15-under 198.

Masson leads Women’s British

Carnoustie, Scotland — Caroline Masson of Germany shot a 4-under 68 to double her lead to two strokes after the third round at the Women’s British Open on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Masson made three birdies in the front nine and three on the back to hold off a late charge from Yani Tseng. The top-ranked Taiwenese player closed within a shot at one stage after picking up five strokes in as many holes, including an eagle.

Three tied for Irish lead

Killarney, Ireland — While Rory McIlroy fell out of contention at the Irish Open, his playing partner David Howell shot a round-best 7-under 64 to take a share of the lead Saturday.

Howell ended up sharing the lead when England’s Simon Dyson birdied the 17th hole and Australia’s Richard Green birdied the last. Both finished with rounds of 67 to join Howell at 11-under 202.

Another tie for Sporting KC

Kansas City, Kan. — Substitute Teal Bunbury scored his first goal since April in the 89th minute to give Sporting Kansas City a 1-1 tie with the 10-man New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Sporting has gone 13 games without a loss, and has had four come-from-behind draws in five games. In three of those, the equalizer has come after the 85th minute.

Rajko Lekic scored for the Revs in the 38th minute, and New England seemed ready to hold on, but defender A.J. Soares got a straight red card in the 82nd when he took down C.J. Sapong on a break, just outside the area.

Washington — It’s on to the next step for the NFL and its players, who are getting closer to a full-fledged collective bargaining agreement.

A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed to the AP that the NFL Players Association already re-established itself as a union. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made by the NFLPA.

Baseball

Red Sox get Aviles from Royals

Chicago — The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Mike Aviles from the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, giving up infielder Yamaico Navarro and minor-league pitcher Kendal Volz in the trade.

Aviles was batting .222 with five home runs and 31 RBIs in 53 games with the Royals. He’s expected to fill a utility-infielder’s role with the Red Sox. Aviles spent part of the season at Triple-A Omaha and had been unhappy with his lack of playing time since being recalled July 20.

Navarro was hitting .216 in 16 games with the Red Sox. While Navarro will likely fill Aviles’ utility spot for the time being, his role could expand.

“He has a chance to be a good everyday player,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. “We got him for his upside in the bat. He’s 23 years old and he can play short, third and occasionally second.”

Rangers land Uehara from O’s

The Texas Rangers got some needed help for their bullpen a day before the non-waiver trade deadline.

The AL West leaders acquired right-hander Koji Uehara from Baltimore on Saturday night, sending right-hander Tommy Hunter and infielder Chris Davis to the Orioles. The Rangers also received cash in the deal.

Seattle sends two to Detroit

Seattle — Dave Dombrowski and the Detroit Tigers hope they’ve grabbed the pieces to round out a playoff pitching staff. The Seattle Mariners just keep searching for the right pieces in their rebuilding efforts.

The Mariners shipped right-handed starter Doug Fister and righty reliever David Pauley to the Tigers on Saturday morning for outfielder Casper Wells, infielder Francisco Martinez, left-hander Charlie Furbush and a player to be named later.

Indians send Cabrera to Giants

Cleveland — Veteran infielder Orlando Cabrera has been traded from Cleveland to the San Francisco Giants.

The Indians announced they had dealt Cabrera for Triple-A outfielder Thomas Neal, minutes after their dramatic 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

Rockies send Jimenez to Indians

Cleveland — The Indians acquired Ubaldo Jimenez from the Colorado Rockies to help them make a push for the playoffs.

The trade is contingent on the 2010 All-Star passing a physical.

Cleveland is sending to the Rockies right-handers Alex White and Joe Gardner and first baseman-outfielder Matt McBride, all minor leaguers, along with a player to be named.

Orioles ship 1B Lee to Pirates

New York — Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles say they have sent Lee to Pittsburgh for minor-league first baseman Aaron Baker.

Ragan takes pole at Indianapolis

Indianapolis — David Ragan, in the midst of a career breakthrough, added the pole for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to his suddenly improved resume.

Ragan earned his first career Sprint Cup Series victory earlier this month at Daytona, a track long considered to be the crown jewel track of NASCAR.

Keselowski wins Kroger 200

Clermont, Ind. — Brad Keselowski stayed close to the leaders all night and was strong in the two green-white-checkered laps at the end to win the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger 200 on Saturday night.

Keselowski led only seven of the 204 laps and took his first lead in lap 198. He had earned the pole in his previous two races but hadn’t won.
