Job fair scheduled for Aug. 25 in Topeka; portion of event set aside for military veterans

A regional job fair in Topeka will be aimed at helping military veterans and the public find employment.

The job fair is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, 1717 S.W. Topeka Blvd. The first hour of the fair will be open exclusively to military veterans, said Matt King, a veterans employment representative at the Lawrence Workforce Center.

The fair will be open to all job seekers from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is sponsored by Kansas Works and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. King said the regional fair is targeting employers and job seekers from Lawrence west to Junction City.

About 30 employers are currently scheduled to attend, but organizers hope to get commitments from about 20 more employers, he said. Any employer interested in attending can call King at 785-840-9675 or send him an email at mking@kansasworks.com.
