From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 12, 1971:

• A front-page photo showed a big load of reinforcing steel being unloaded at the construction site of the Lawrence Public Library. Three truckloads of the steel, to be used for the floors of the library, were to arrive today “so the builders should be able to continue with its construction in the event of a steel strike,” according to the caption.
• Max Falkenstien, general manager of Sunflower Cablevision, had been spending the week in Washington, D.C., to attend the 20th annual convention of the National Cable Television Association.
• Work was underway in southeast Lawrence to line up formerly dead-end sections of Harper Street. When complete, the road work would allow motorists to drive directly from East 15th to East 19th on Harper, without going several blocks out of their way.
