Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson holding space shuttle watch party

? The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center is inviting the public to a watch party for the final launch of NASA’s shuttle program.

Space shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to blast off from Cape Canaveral at 10:26 a.m. Central time on Friday, and the Cosmosphere’s party is set for 10 to 11 a.m.

But with a 60 percent chance of rain for the Florida site as of Tuesday, there’s a chance the launch could be delayed. The Hutchinson News says people planning to attend the Cosmosphere gathering should check its website Friday morning.

One person who won’t be there is Cosmosphere president and CEO Chris Orwoll. He’ll be watching the launch from Banana Creek, a prime viewing spot at Cape Canaveral.
