Rash of house fires reported across Kansas over holiday

? Spent fireworks are blamed for at least one of a rash of house fires around Kansas on the Fourth of July. There were no reports of injuries, but several families were left looking for places to stay.

In the Topeka area, a single-family home was destroyed early Monday in Soldier Township. Investigators were studying whether the blaze was sparked by fireworks.

Several fires left homes damaged or destroyed in and around Sedgwick County, and officials say at least one of those began with fireworks that were left in a truck inside a garage. That blaze broke out around 3 a.m. in Wichita and did about $90,000 damage to the building and contents.

Flames also damaged or destroyed other homes in Wichita, Bel Aire, Garden Plain and Derby.
