Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Michael P. Schofield and Air Force Airman Taylor J. Moszeter have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Schofield is the son of Walker and Daisy Schofield, Lecompton.

Moszeter is the son of Tym Moszeter, Lawrence, and Courtney Cunningham, Topeka.

U.S. Army major Michael L. Slusser, Overbrook, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel Dec. 1 at Fort Leavenworth. The ceremony was officiated by colonel Jack Flowers, Commander of Operations Group- A.

Slusser, a 1984 graduate of Baldwin High School, is also a 1993 Kansas University’s Reserved Officers Training Corps distinguished military graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In 2006 Slusser returned to Fort Leavenworth to attend the Command and General Staff College. While there he earned a master’s degree in business management from Webster University.

Soon after 9/11, Slusser deployed on two combat tours with the Special Operations Aviation Regiment as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Slusser was awarded the Bronze Star for his service and the SOAR received a Valorous Unit Citation for their endeavors and support to special mission units.

Following his overseas deployments, Slusser was promoted to major, and reassigned as a detachment commander and senior advisor for the 2nd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Kingsport, Tenn.

Lieutenant colonel Slusser’s promotion comes in his 16th year of commissioned service. The ceremony, conducted at the Battle Command Training Program’s new Seminar Facility, was attended by his parents, Louis and Donna Slusser, Baldwin City; his sister and nephew, Christina and Chance Barritt, Lawrence, and his fiancé, Lori Allen, and her two daughters, Heather and Brooke, Overbrook. Colonel Slusser is the grandson of Max and Doris Moore, Baldwin City, and has two daughters, Ashley, Lexington, Ky., and Lauren, Fayetteville, N.C.
