Gary Bedore’s notebook: Mario Little to travel with team to Michigan

Mario Little, who is suspended, stands to watch the action from the bench during the first half, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Little to travel: Suspended senior Mario Little will travel with the Jayhawks to Michigan for Sunday’s 3:30 p.m. game against the Wolverines, Kansas coach Bill Self said Friday. KU’s coach said he’s getting closer to deciding Little’s fate for the rest of the season. Little has a court date this spring for his recent arrest on misdemeanor battery charges.

“There is a chance (Little will play again this season). I don’t know positively yet,” Self said. “I want what is best for us more than anything, but I want what’s best for him, too, and hopefully that is in conjunction with what’s best for us. I’ve got information, and certainly I need to make a decision pretty soon, but I’m holding off on doing that just yet. I would say that in the relatively near future, we’ll probably have a more definitive plan on what his role will be.”

Junior Markieff Morris, who didn’t play most of the second half Wednesday after being called for a technical foul, won’t face any additional discipline Sunday at Michigan, Self indicated.

Self discussed the rotation at Friday’s weekly news conference: “I see nine guys playing double-figure minutes,” he said of upcoming Big 12 play. “As the season goes on, all coaches shorten their bench. One advantage we do have, we have a lot of good guys, but we’re not going to get guys in the game just to get them in the game. My teams at Illinois, we played nine. My teams at Tulsa, we played eight, and the best team we had here, we played seven, with Cole (Aldrich) being our eighth. I think what’s best for this team, considering our foul problems, we need to be able to play four bigs and five perimeter players.”

This, that: Former KU guard Aaron Miles recently suffered a knee injury while playing for Reno, Nev., of the NBADL. He is expected to undergo surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. … DeAndre Daniels, a 6-8 senior forward from IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., did not choose between KU, Texas or Kentucky on Friday.
