From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 6, 1971:

• Potter Lake had been declared safe for ice skating. A recent run of near-zero temperatures had thickened the surface ice to about three and a half inches, said Henry Shenk, professor of physical education at Kansas University.
• It had been determined that KU students had paid out over $55,000 in parking fines during the fiscal year which had ended June 30, 1970. As large as this amount was, it comprised only one-third of the total parking revenue at the university, which was slightly above $146,000. The revenue was made up mostly of funds derived from the sale of parking permits, income from metered lots, and athletic parking revenues.
• The Lawrence Housing Authority had gained unanimous approval of the final drawings and specifications for Edgewood Homes. The project, to be located at 18th and Haskell, was the city’s new low-rent, general-occupancy housing development. The final plans showed a community of 130 cottage-type row homes with brick and cedar finishes.
